The RANGER Neo + TV Signal and Spectrum analyzers on the high seas

September 10, 2013.

The last contribution of PROMAX to the world of telecommunications in cruises has been the acquisition of the RANGERNeo + field strength meter by the company ESS Hanika for its use on the cruise AIDAcara, which belongs to the AIDA fleet, number one company cruise in the German market.

Due to the complexity and size of these facilities, it is necessary to use proper equipment for maintenance, installation and monitoring.

VSAT networks provide telecommunications on cruises. VSAT stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal, since the antennas used in this technology are usually of a diameter less than 3 meters. Most antennas have a size between 75 cm and 1.2 m with data rates from 56 kbit/s up to 4 Mbit/s and allows the transfer of data, voice and video.

For the reception of satellite TV at sea, the DVB-S standard is used, as in reception networks on land, but with a special type of 3-axis stabilized antenna with a tracking and a GPS receiver that helps to place the satellite in the sky when tuning. Everything is controlled and monitored from a software application.
